Employed by Taylor University as Staff Accompanist and Applied Piano Faculty member, Professor Douglas Michael Singer (MM University of Northern Colorado) also freelances at Ball State University as a Collaborative Pianist. As a collaborator and vocal coach, Professor Singer brings sensitive musicianship and artistic knowledge to the studio and concert hall. Specializing in the mezzo and soprano literature, Professor Singer plays for a wide variety of instruments. As a teacher, Professor Singer draws out the creative potential in each student by focusing on development of the right brain, while giving the student a whole view of music by referencing philosophy, art and history. As a composer, Professor Singer blends current trends in music with a deep understanding of works of the Great Masters.Mr. Singer has played Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms with the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Alex Platt. Mr. Singer has performed piano with the Taylor Chorale, the Gardner-Webb University Symphonic Orchestra, the Taylor Opera, the Taylor University Theatre and Farmland Indiana Dinner Theatre. As a choral singer, Mr. Singer has performed with the Gardner-Webb University Opera, University of Northern Colorado Mixed Choir and the Ft. Wayne Bach Collegium. Mr. Singer was student conductor of the Gardner-Webb University Concert Choir and has been the conductor of the Lamar, Colorado HS and MS choirs. He has written and performed several major works including Judah for symphony, choir and piano and numerous solo piano pieces. He has performed countless times in recording studios, recitals and performance classes as soloist and collaborator. He has accompanied musicians for the College Music Society regional convention and the MTNA East Central Division Competitions. Douglas is a member of MTNA and ASCAP.
